Laser Dentistry

• The introduction of our new Ivoclar-Odyssey soft tissue laser enables us to perform many procedures previously done with a scalpel. We are finding better and more rapid healing with less post operative discomfort using the soft tissue laser. Many procedures can be accomplished with the laser such as periodontal therapy and surgery, biopsies, frenectomies and tissue recontouring. Also, the treatment of cold sores and herpetic  lesions can be rapidly resolved using laser energy, saving patients from days of acute pain and unsightly sores.

Root Canal (Endodontics)

• Most dental abcesses are caused by decay that destroys the nerve. As a result, the nerve becomes infected and an abcess forms at the root tip. By removing the dead nerve, cleaning the canal and replacing the nerve with an inert material, the tooth can be saved. To aid us in this process we use the newest technology: nickel titanium rotary instruments and electronic root tip locators.

Oral Surgery

• Extractions (routine, surgical and impactions), biopsies, grafts, frenectomies and apicoectomies.

Non Surgical Periodontics

• Soft tissue programs to treat periodontal disease without using surgery include root planing, scaling and irrigation with an antimicrobial agent as well as soft tissue laser treatment.

• Since 75% of adults over the age of 35 have some form of gum disease, comprehensive periodontal evaluation is an important health safeguard. Periodontal disease can be detected early on and treated effectively. The gums (gingiva) and bone support of your teeth can be evaluated for any abnormal condition. Periodontal disease has been linked to cardiac disorders, stroke, lung disease, diabetes and pre-term or low birth weight infants. Also, many systemic diseases can manifest themselves in the mouth and can be detected early by an oral examination, avoiding serious health problems.

• There is a safe, gentle technique that in some cases is an effective alternative to periodontal surgery. Available periodontal therapies include non-surgical soft tissue management, oral medications such as Periostat (doxycycline hyclate). Therapeutic medicaments such as Arestin (minocycline hci), Perio Chips (chlorhexidine gluconate), and Atridox (doxycycline hyclate), can be used to treat periodontal disease. These medicaments are placed in the gingival pockets around the teeth to reduce inflammation. The soft tissue laser can also be used to decontaminate the bacteria in the gingival pocket. The above treatments can also be a valuable adjunct in the treatment of those patients who require periodontal surgery. If you are personally suffering from bad breath, bleeding and inflamed gums, or teeth that have shifted or are loose, you most likely have some form of periodontal disease.

Surgical Periodontics

• Periodental disease is classified into two different types, gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is caused by bacteria and is the inflamation of the gum tissue surrounding the tooth. There is no bone loss present with gingivitis. Periodontitis presents with both inflamation of the gum tissues and bone loss of varying degrees of severity. Surgical treatment includes the re-contouring of the gingival tissues as well as the supporting bone. Both traditional scalpel surgery and soft tisuue laser surgery are available in our office.

Children's Dentistry

• We have a child friendly office created by a caring and well trained staff. We offer tooth colored fillings, sealants and preventive care including fluoride treatments. Minor tooth movement can be accomplished using removeable or fixed orthodontic appliances. We make our childrens office visits fun by having videos available in each treatment room. We reward our little patients with stickers and prizes and we also have a monthly raffle for the kids.

Snore Guard

• Snore Guard Appliances by Thera Snore

  For those patients and family members of those patients who have snoring problems. The Snore Guard is a removable appliance that can eliminate or reduce snoring. The appliance can be fabricated in the office in one visit. The appliance is worn comfortably during sleep and is effective for most patients at an affordable cost.

Oral Cancer Screening

• Oral cancer screening has taken a giant step forward with the introduction of ViziLite Plus with T Blue, manufactured by Zila Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Today cancer screening technology is available for most cancers. For breast cancer the screening standard is the mammogram, for prostate cancer the PSA test, for cervical cancer the Pap Smear. Oral Cancer now has ViziLite Plus which is non-invasive and painless. The patient rinses with a cleansing solution and then an examination of the mouth is performed using the ViziLite. If any suspicious lesions are detected, T Blue is the used to mark the lesion. Once identified a biopsy can be done to determine the nature of the lesion. This offers the patient and doctor a technique which is safe and 99% accurate.

• If you don't think that you are at risk for oral cancer, all you need to consider is this fact: 25% of oral cancers occur in people who don't smoke and have no other life style risk factors.

• The ViziLite Plus is now available in our office and should become a part of your yearly examination.
